Watermelon

Watermelon as a cool and refreshing fruit is well-known and consumed by many people worldwide. Watermelon is a great source of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B6 and vitamin B1. Moreover it contains potassium, magnesium, carotenoid antioxidant, and lycopene. Watermelons are cultivated from a vine-like plant (Citrullus lanatus) originating in West Africa, well produced in tropical or subtropical areas, requiring temperatures higher than about 25 °C.

Watermelon production in Iran

According to FAO statistics, Iran is the world’s third largest producer of watermelon. In different seasons, watermelon is cultivated in various parts of Iran so we can supply premium watermelon for potential customers in all the seasons without any limitation.

Watermelon varieties

There are different types of watermelon, varying in in size, shape, color, and length. From ancient times, various types of watermelon were divided into two main categories:

1- Thin skin watermelons which are more suitable for local use and most are sent to the areas close to the field of cultivation.

2- Large watermelons with thick skin which can be delivered to both near and far areas, keeping them in the warehouse is easier in comparison with the thin skin watermelons.

The most significant and famous varieties of watermelon in Iran are as follow:

– Ghorgh

– Khanomi

-Sharifabad

– Mahbobi

– The white skin of Hamedan

It is worth noting that most of Iran watermelon is exported to the Persian Gulf countries due to their hot weather. Watermelon must be exported in bulk or up to 1 MT wooden boxes. We are ready to export watermelon to various countries including Iraq, Oman, Qatar, the UAE, Afghanistan, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkmenistan, Georgia, and Armenia.
