The Port of Nhava Sheva also known as Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) is the largest container port of India. It is located in the east of Mumbai (Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra 400702, India). History
Nhava Sheva port was built on 1989 (26 May). The channel for Nhava Sheva port is 7.2 kilometers (11.6 miles) and is maintained at a depth of 11.5 meters (37.7 miles). At its entry, the channel is 350 meters (1.1 thousand feet) wide. The Port of Nhava Sheva has 2000 meters (6.6 thousand feet) of quays for container ships and 445 meters (1.5 thousand feet) for liquid, bulk, and project cargo ships.
Nhava Sheva port operates a fleet of boats to facilitate the movement of cargo ships. These include four pilot launches, eight tugs (ranging from 30- to 50-ton bollard pull). The Port of Nhava Sheva has two mooring launches and one high-speed harbor patrol launch.

Nhava Sheva port consists three container terminals: The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Container Terminal (JNPCT), the Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT), and the Gateway Terminals India Pvt. Ltd. (GTIPL).
The 445 meters (1.5 thousand foot) Shallow-Draft Berth in the Port of Nhava Sheva can accommodate all vessels to 170 meters (557.7 feet) in length with up to 9 meters (29.5 feet) of draught. The berth is used to handle feeder container vessels, dry bulk, and general cargoes. It can handle about 1.2 million tons of cargo per year.
Future Improvements
Nhava Sheva port has several development projects. The main Port of Nhava Sheva harbor channel will deepen and widen. Nhava Sheva’s connectivity to roads and rail and to internal port roads is considered to progress. Even a dedicated rail line from the Port of Nhava Sheva to Delhi will be improved. Road improvements will include work on the roads which are connecting the Port of Nhava Sheva to container freight stations and container yards that serve the port. Also, a fourth terminal will be constructed in the Port of Nhava Sheva to handle containers and marine chemicals. Finally, backup facilities, new machinery, and equipment will be prepared for this major port.
