Kiwi Supplier in Iran

Kiwi is an oval fruit with a light brown color and a fluffy texture. This fruit is native to China. Kiwi is a climbing plant of various species.

The inner pulp of the fruit is a translucent light green with a radial pattern of lighter colors covered with edible small black seeds. Kiwi fruit has a unique flavor and soft texture.

Kiwi was brought to New Zealand from China by religious missionaries in the late twentieth century. As the growth of these exotic fruits increased, the people of New Zealand changed their name to “Chinese gooseberry”. It later entered the United States and was very well received by the people. After repeated trimming, the fruit was named “Kiwi” in honor of the New Zealand National Bird because its small, fluffy, brown shape is very similar to this bird. At present, Italy, New Zealand, France, Japan, Chile, the United States and Iran are the main commercial producers of kiwi.

KIWI PRODUCTION

China is the largest producer of kiwi in the world.

Italy and New Zealand were the second and third largest producers of this fruit, respectively.

And Iran, with an annual production of about 200,000 tons, is the fourth largest producer of kiwi in the world.
Iran ranks fourth in world kiwi production, ranked eighth in the world in terms of exports after Italy, New Zealand, Chile, Belgium, Greece, the Netherlands and France. Annually, about 300,000 tons of kiwi are produced in the country and almost half of it is exported.

KIWI EXPORT

China produced 50% of the global total of kiwi in 2017. Bellow the superior exporters of Kiwi by country in 2017 are mentioned:

  2. Italy: $527.6 million (19.5%)
  3. Belgium: $329.6 million (12.2%)
  4. Chile: $188 million (6.9%)
  5. Greece: $130.6 million (4.8%)
  6. Iran: $65 million (2.4%)
  7. Netherlands: $55.5 million (2.1%)
  8. France: $43.6 million (1.6%)
  9. United States: $31.4 million (1.2%)
  10. Hong Kong: $30.9 million (1.1%)
  11. Spain: $29.9 million (1.1%)
  12. Germany: $24.3 million (0.9%)
  13. Portugal: $22 million (0.8%)
  14. Lithuania: $8.8 million (0.3%)
  15. China: $7.1 million (0.3%)

The listed countries shipped 98.8% of global kiwi exports in 2017 by value.

As you see in the mentioned list, Iran was the sixth exporter of kiwi in 2017, before the Netherlands, France, and the USA.

International sales from kiwifruit exports by country totaled US$2.9 billion in 2019. That dollar amount reflects a 28% increase since 2015 when exported kiwifruits were worth $2.3 billion, but a -5.6% decline from 2018 to 2019.

Among continents, exporters in Oceania (mostly New Zealand) sold the highest dollar worth of exported kiwis during 2019 with shipments valued at $1.49 billion or almost half (51.4%) of the worldwide total. In second place were European shippers at 37.4%. Smaller percentages originated from kiwi exporters in Latin America (6%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean, Asia (4.1%), North America (1.1%) then Africa (0.1%).

  6. Netherlands: $80.5 million (2.8%)
  7. Iran: $64.6 million (2.2%)
  8. Spain: $34.2 million (1.2%)
  9. United States: $33.1 million (1.1%)
  10. Hong Kong: $25.7 million (0.9%)
  11. Portugal: $24 million (0.8%)
  12. France: $24 million (0.8%)
  13. Germany: $14.5 million (0.5%)
  14. China: $13.3 million (0.5%)
  15. United Arab Emirates: $6.7 million (0.2%)

By value, the listed 15 countries shipped 98.6% of global kiwi exported in 2019.
Now in 2020,Iran is the eighth exporter of kiwi in the world.

Kiwi is one of the significant exported fruits of Iran, being cultivated mainly in the north of Iran. Gilan province and Mazandaran province in the north of Iran are the main areas that produce kiwi. Iran kiwi is mostly exported to neighboring countries including Russia, India, Pakistan and also European countries.
